At Comal Active, we endeavor to live a fit lifestyle. We understand that personal fitness is a daily practice- and not a quick fix. We realize the usual suspects of fad diets, treadmills and weight machines don’t work. So, we’ve replaced them with functional movements, modern day nutrition practices and group accountability. People come to Comal Active to reshape their body image and sharpen their mental fortitude so they can seek-out new challenges, enjoy new adventures and be free to explore new boundaries. We show our athletes how to move effectively inside the gym so they can have enjoyable life experiences while outside. We teach exercises that are used in everyday life, and the tools we use are just as common: weights, kettlebells, ropes, sandbags, bikes, rowers, and gymnastics mats to name a few.

All of your burning questions answered!

What will my first time in the gym be like?
  • Warm-Up:   Usually led by the coach and designed to prep your body for the workout. Could include light cardio (jump rope, rowing), dynamic stretching, and bodyweight movements.
  • Movement Prep / Skill Work:  The coach will break down the movements for the day—like squats, kettlebell swings, or box step-ups. They’ll show you how to do each one safely and help scale it to your level (lighter weights, modified versions, etc.).

 

  • The Workout (aka WOD – Workout of the Day):  A circuit-style or timed workout, often mixing strength and cardio. You go at your own pace, with form being the priority.

You might see stations or rounds like:

-5 box step-ups

-10 kettlebell swings

-200m row

*Repeat for X minutes

 

  • Cooldown & High Fives:  The group usually wraps up together. You’ll stretch it out, catch your breath, and maybe swap sweaty fist bumps with the person next to you.
  • How You’ll Feel:  Tired but energized. Maybe a little sore the next day. But mostly: accomplished, like you did something real with your body.
What is your drop-in policy?

Just sign our waiver and pay a $25 fee, and you have an all-access pass for the day. We have weekly passes for $50, and a 10-visit punch card for $200.

How often do you recommend going to the gym?

Listen to your body – Functional fitness can be intense. Sleep, nutrition, and hydration play a huge role in how often you can train effectively. Scaling is your friend – You can go every day if the intensity is varied and well-managed. If you tell us your current fitness level and goals (fat loss, strength, endurance, etc.), we can recommend an ideal weekly schedule just for you.

I'm not in very good shape...can I do crossfit?

Absolutely, 100% yes—you can and honestly should try functional fitness, even if you’re not in good shape right now. In fact, it’s one of the best ways to build real strength, mobility, and endurance starting from wherever you are. Everything can be modified. Can’t do a push-up? Start with wall push-ups. Can’t jump? Step instead. Our gym has trainers guiding you, correcting form, and helping you scale safely.

Do you offer more than crossfit?

Yes! We offer coach-led cardio “BURN” classes and also provide daily programming for strength training, called “BUILD.” We are a HYROX affiliate and we also offer our members free yoga and open gym.
